The facility is beautiful, and features more than 1000Y of safe shooting lane with the ability to shoot UKD (UnKnown Distance). This course is focused on the shooter who owns a precision/tactical rifle platform and wants to understand how to deploy it at mid to long ranges. The following areas of skill will be instructed, practiced, and demonstrated:
- BRM Review (Basic Rifle Marksmanship Fundamentals, precision rifle specifics of BRM)
- Setting up your shooting position
- Properly recording your engagement data in a data book (we can provide Impact Databooks ™ tuned to the course)
- Communication and terminology
- Spotter-shooter communication and dialogue
- How to give the shooter information - properly calling hits and misses
- Zeroing - Establishing and maintaining a good precision rifle zero
- Equipment choices for the precision shooter
- Optics, focal planes
- How to avoid three common MISStakes with optics.
- Care and maintenance of the precision rifle platform
- Exterior Ballistics, MET/ENV, and the science of trajectory calculation
- Using a chronograph, and a ballistic calculator
- Reticle based range estimation and mathematics (MIL and MOA)
- Reticle based holds (against wind, for elevation)
- Engagement drills exercising these techniques on actual UKD targets.
- Making the most out of uneven ground, or unusual circumstances.
- Rapid Bolt Engagement drills.
- Unusual/Hasty Position shooting.
- A small, friendly competition among the students on day 2.
The instructors and staff will be demonstrating and shooting the drills too. Targets are going to be steel & paper to 500Y, and steel from 500Y to 1000Y.
We may include other elements if there are demand for them. Please let us know. Cost of the course is a very reasonable $125.00 per day. 10% discount for LE/MIL. There are decent accommodations and restaurants nearby, and we might be able to arrange camping if people are interested. Round count is minimum 75 per day. Note that funds must be received within two weeks of registration confirmation, and refunds will be granted with no questions asked until August 25th. After that date refunds will not be granted without a substitute student available. If we have a standby student or you provide one, it's no problem, and we will issue a full refund. If the course is cancelled by reasons beyond our control everyone gets a full refund.
Never attended a course? No problem - Here's what you're going to need:
- Zeroed (100 or 200Y) Tactical style precision rifle platform in a suitable caliber, max .338 Lapua please. Bolt action is recommended. A hunting rifle will not be suitable for the course. If you have two such platforms, feel free to bring a second rifle.
- Rifle fitted with a good quality scope, 9-10x magnification minimum. A reticle that is based in MIL or MOA is HIGHLY Recommended.
- at least 75 rounds of match grade ammo per day.
- A shooting mat.
- A quality data book. We recommend and use Impact Databooks, and can furnish one as part of the course at a discount to you.
- Binoculars / spotting scope.
- Standard range protective gear.
- All the tools, allen wrenches, etc. required to adjust your scope and other equipment.
- Water/Gatorade, lunch for both days. (there are places very close to get food)
- Clerical kit: Pens, pencils, markers, notebook, calculator.
- Sunblock, insect repellent.
- Comfortable clothing suitable for weather (changes fast on the mountain).
- If you have a laser RF or a weather meter, you can bring it but it is not required equipment.
